Hi Lovelies, ☽ ☆ ☼
Is it just me that finds numerous "life hacks" on the internet that leave me somewhat confused ad somewhat amazed? Little tips and tricks that can "make your mornings better" or "clear up that pesky acne!" are spread all over the internet, then passed on between person to person leaving everyone utterly amazed (never actually trying some of them, but still amazed) when really there all down right stupid?
Yep, those little tips and tricks might not actually be helping you! Many beauty "hacks and tips" are either untrue, stupid or could harm your skin/body. So today i'm going to share with you all- '10 COMMON BEAUTY MISCONCEPTIONS!
Myth #1:
' You need to cut your hair every six weeks!'
I can remember one of my old classmates telling me i should be cutting my hair regularly if i wanted to to grow longer (she had super long hair that made me insanely jealous! but i dont know why i believed her considering we were only in about grade 2...)
But i have learnt that getting your hair cut frequently doesnt actually make it grow faster. If you're growing your hair out then you only need a haircut if there's breakage at the ends. Cutting your hair when its perfectly healthy and doesnt have split ends wont do you any good or speed up the growing process, contrary to popular belief!
It also does save a bit of money too!

Myth #2:
'baking soda is a great exfoliator!'
I didn't actually hear of this "trick" until recently. I saw it on pinterest and was left wondering how, what and why? If a productt isn't for using on your skin, why use it on your skin?? Thats like using tomato sauce as a shampoo- weird! just use it on a hotdog instead!
The pinterest "trick" said baking soda can be used as an '‘at home microdermabrasion.’ (see the 'at home' bit, thats where everyone gets sucked in, it leaves you thinking "ooh at home! this will be super easy and great trick to do instead of spending tons of money on expensive products!")
Baking Soda has a PH level of 9, whereas your skin is only 4.5! making the baking soda way too alkaline to actually put on your face. Even if you dont see negaive results immediately its still damaging your skin, (just secretely i suppose) Don't bother with this trick! you'r better off spending a bit of money on proper exfoliation products- would you really want to harm your skin just to save some money?
Myth #3
'tooth paste will clear up your acne!'
This one is only a slight myth, while some people find this trick does work, others will find the menthol in the toothpaste to irritate their skin, thus making your acne more problematic. If you do get a reakout the best thing to do is wash your face regularly, withhold from touching your blemished areas of your face and use some special creams/washes to treat it.
Myth #4
'Match your foundation to your wrist!'
If you'r a makeup wearer ( or just a person with skin to be honest) you'll be able to tell that the skin on your wrist generally isn't the same colour as that on your face. I'm yet to come across a person with the same colour wrist skin as their face!
When your matching your foundation the safest thing to do is match it to your neck or face, that is wear you use it so that makes sense, right? A persons face is often tanner then the rest of their body, and nobody wants to walk around looking like they have a mask of light foundation on really. (i mean, unless thats the look your going for, then go ahead!) If you go to a makeup store you can generally find someone their to match your foundation for free for you!

Myth #5
'Fake tan will keep you protected from the sun!'
I don't know how this "Fact" came to be because it isnt true in the slightest! Whilst a Faux 'base tan' might make you feel more confident on the beach, thepigment doesnt offer any protection from the sun's UVA and UVB rays, what so ever! The only thing thats gonna keep you protected is a producted with SPF, with a minimum of 30+ and ideally 50

Thats it for tday's blog post! I hope you have all learnt a little something from it! Don't trust every little tip, trick or life hack you see on the internet, if you really want to use it do some background research first! just incase ;)
I hope you all have a lovely rest of the week, tell me if you have any other hacks you know to be myths!
Keep smiling,
Lili x
